Tsunami collection thief nabbed

An unidentified man who attempted to steal a collection bucket during the match between New Zealand and the FICA World XI has been arrested.

When the bucket was passed to the man, he tried to run off before being caught and arrested. The money was returned, according to New Zealand cricket officials.

"It is a regrettable incident, but New Zealand Cricket is happy with the way it has been dealt with," said match organiser Tim Murdoch.

The incident was the only dampener on a match which was dominated by the big hitting of Stephen Fleming, who smashed nine sixes and ten fours - including seven sixes from the formidable bowling of Muthiah Muralidaran - to raise $55,000 with his boundary-hitting alone.

The overall total raised by the first match for tsunami relief stands at NZ$506,233, with two more matches to follow.

The second match of the series will be played in Wellington on Monday.
